Join us for the first ISELP Hands-On Course hosted at Pferdeklinik Niederlenz.

This intensive two-day program focuses on Day 1: The Equine Stifle and Day 2: The Equine Tarsus & Proximal Suspensory Ligament. The course combines in-depth lectures, clinical case discussions, and extensive hands-on ultrasound instruction led by experienced ISELP faculty.

Course Description

Day 1 — The Equine Stifle

The equine stifle is one of the most complex joints in the horse. Although lameness originating from the hip is relatively uncommon, interest in this region has increased significantly in recent years.

• Morning topics include:
• Functional anatomy
• Radiographic anatomy
• Diagnostic imaging
• Diagnostic anesthesia
• Clinical case discussions
• Current treatment strategies
• Osteoarthritis
• Stifle ligament desmopathies and enthesopathies
• Developmental orthopedic disease

The afternoon consists of intensive hands-on ultrasound training of the equine stifle and hip. Participants rotate through small-group wet lab stations with experienced instructors, developing confidence in identifying normal and abnormal anatomy while improving practical scanning skills.

Day 2 — The Equine Tarsus & Proximal Suspensory Ligament

The equine tarsus and proximal metatarsus contain complex soft tissue anatomy that can be challenging to evaluate ultrasonographically.

• Functional anatomy
• Radiographic anatomy
• Ultrasound anatomy
• Diagnostic anesthesia
• Clinical case discussions
• Treatment strategies
• Tarsal disease
• Ligament desmopathies and enthesopathies
• Fractures

The afternoon focuses on extensive hands-on ultrasonographic examination of the tarsus and proximal plantar metatarsus (proximal suspensory ligament). Participants leave with practical experience, detailed course notes, and skills immediately applicable in clinical practice.
