A native of Santa Barbara, CA, Russ earned his Bachelor of Science from Claremont College, Master of Science, Animal Nutrition from UC Davis, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis in 1978.

In 1979, Russ founded Peninsula Equine, a 2-man Thoroughbred/Quarterhorse Racing and Sport Horse practice, which quickly grew to be solely a Sport Horse practice within two years. Since it’s inception, cutting edge diagnostics and therapeutics have been a core principle of Peninsula Equine. In that spirit, Russ was active as a founder and board member of the Association of Equine Sports Medicine in 1984 and was a founding member of ISELP (International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology) in 2006, is Certified in ISELP, serves a Secretary on the BOD, and continues to both host annual ISELP Modules at PEMC and instruct at ISELP meetings both nationally and internationally. Russ constructed the current Peninsula Equine Medical Center facility on the Portola Valley Training Center site in 1993. Although he practices almost exclusively sports medicine now, Russ perpetuates a desire to offer clients only the best services available by selecting a team of vets and staff to offer complete care for our patients, from wellness care to the most complex medical and surgical cases. Nathalie Crevier-Denoix

DMV, PhD, Agrégée d'Anatomie, Dipl. ACVSMR, Dipl. ECVSMR

Nathalie Crevier-Denoix graduated from the Veterinary School of Alfort (France, 1989). Agrégée in Veterinary Anatomy (1993), she defended a PhD thesis in Biomechanics (1996). Professor of Anatomy (1999), she is also the head of a research unit devoted to Biomechanics and equine locomotor pathology in Alfort. After a Veterinary Doctorate on the radiographic images of the limbs of the foal, her research activities have been covering two topics: equine tendon imaging and biomechanics, and biomechanical effects of equestrian surfaces. Her main achievements are the development of a non-invasive device for in vivo tendon force measurement (Tensonics, patented), the development and application of a combined dynamometric and high-speed kinematic measurement protocol compatible with equine training conditions, and the development of a testing device for equestrian surfaces, mimicking the interaction of an equine forelimb with the ground in the vertical plane (Equine Track Tester, ET2, patented). In 2016 she became diplomate of the ACVSMR, and in 2019, de facto diplomate of the ECVSMR (equine; recertified in 2024). From 2019 to 2023 she has been principal investigator of a research program on rehabilitation of superficial digital flexor tendinopathy in racehorses, based on controlled exercise associated with close clinical, ultrasonographic and biomechanical follow-up. Since 2023, she is principal investigator of research projects in which the ET2 testing device measurements, combined with locomotion characterization using a wearable device, are used to assess surface properties and their effects on the horse’s comfort and security, both on sub-irrigated (“ebb and flow” system) sand arenas, and cross-country eventing surfaces. She published 60 peer-reviewed articles, and presented about 100 invited lectures and 150 short communications in international and national conferences.

 Laurie R. Goodrich

DVM, MS, PhD, DACVS

Dr. Goodrich is a Professor of Orthopedics in the Department of Clinical Sciences. Her laboratory studies new approaches to bone and joint healing in equine athletes, and employs both gene therapy and stem cell therapy. Ongoing studies include using adeno-associated viral vectors to deliver growth factors and anti-inflammatory molecules important in cartilage and bone healing. Dr. Goodrich has utilized mesenchymal stem cells and platelet rich plasma to improve cartilage repair. Further studies utilizing gene therapy combined with stem cell therapies to improve musculoskeletal repair are currently underway.

She achieved this certification in January 2015. Fortunately, in 2016, Dr. Seabaugh had the opportunity to move back to Fort Collins with her husband and equine radiologist, Dr. Kurt Selberg. Her goal is to provide expertise in lameness diagnosis and treatment to all horses from the back yard pony to the Olympic hopeful. Her clinical and research interests include biologic therapies and lameness diagnosis.
