From lecture to lab in 7 simple steps.
IDENTIFY A PRACTITIONER
Identify an experienced practitioner to assist with your wet lab such as an equine professor, resident, local practitioner, or ISELP Certified Member. The practitioner should have experience with musculoskeletal ultrasound, be willing to watch the same ISELP lecture/video as the students and assist with teaching the hands-on wet lab. Participating practitioners will be compensated by ISELP for their time teaching the student wet lab.
CONFIRM STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
Ensure that you and all participants are student members of ISELP. Membership is required to access the student section of the ISELP website and course materials.
ARRANGE LECTURE VIEWING
Coordinate with your group and practitioner to watch the relevant ISELP lecture/video prior to the wet lab. Students may watch individually or together as a group. The practitioner should review the same lecture/video in preparation for teaching the wet lab.
SCHEDULE THE WET LAB
Arrange a date and time for your group to meet with the selected practitioner. Choose a university facility or local barn suitable for the session.
PREPARE FOR THE WET LAB
Plan equipment and horses based on the size of your student group. For a typical group of 10–20 students, plan for a minimum of 2–4 horses and 2–4 ultrasound machines to provide adequate hands-on scanning opportunities. Horses should be clipped with a #40 blade in the anatomical region to be scanned. You will also need ultrasound gel, water buckets and sponges, and access to a room or stall that can be darkened. Antech Sound can provide Vscan ultrasound systems if needed.
PROVIDE PRACTITIONER DETAILS
Submit the name and contact information of the practitioner assisting with your wet lab to the ISELP Student Program Coordinator at [email protected] . ISELP will coordinate practitioner compensation directly.
CONFIRMATION
Once all arrangements are complete, confirm the date, time, and location with all participants and the practitioner.
