JEAN-MARIE DENOIX

Professor, DVM, Phd, Assoc. LA-ECVDI, DACVSMR, Certified in Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) President

 

 

Dr. Denoix of the CIRALE (Center of Imaging and Research on Equine Locomotor Affections) in Normandy, France is considered the world’s foremost equine musculoskeletal system anatomist as well as a leading equine diagnostic ultrasonographer. Dr. Denoix is a founder and current president of ISELP and was also the 2006 recipient of the Schering Plough Equine Research Award from the World Equine Veterinary Association for outstanding applied research work in Equine Diagnostic Imaging. Jean-Marie has been the invited speaker at many international meetings in more than 30 countries around the world on topics related to clinical examination and imaging of equine locomotor problems.

 

 

 

 

RUSS PETERSON

DVM, MS, DACVSMR, Certified in Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP)

 

 

A native of Santa Barbara, CA, Dr. Peterson earned his Bachelor of Science, Biology from Claremont Men’s College; Master of Science, Animal Nutrition, from University of California at Davis, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis. In 1979, Dr. Peterson co-founded Peninsula Equine, a two-man Thoroughbred/Quarter Racing and Sport Horse practice, which quickly grew to be solely a Sport Horse practice within two short years. During these early years, Dr. Peterson played a key role in establishing veterinary supervision and standards for the AERC endurance competitions from 1979-1990. He quickly became sought after by many of the nation’s most prestigious associations. In 1984 he was active as a founder and board member of the Association of Equine Sports Medicine, in 1986 member of the UC Davis External Advisory Board, and in 1993 began service on the California Veterinary Licensing Board Exam Committee among others.

 

 

DUNCAN PETERS

DVM, MS, DACVSMR, Certified in Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP)
Dr. Duncan Peters received his DVM in 1982 from the University of California-Davis and has been practicing sport horse medicine for over 30 years. He became a certified member of ISELP in 2008 and sits on the Board of Directors. He is an active AAEP member and past board of director. He earned diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) in 2013. He was an associate professor in clinical equine lameness and sports medicine at Michigan State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Peters is currently co-owner of East-West Equine Sports Medicine, LLC, Lexington, Kentucky, a private practice focused on diagnosis and treatment of equine lameness, poor performance and overall management of the sport horse for optimum performance. He has consulted and authored many articles in lay publications and is a contributing author for Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery, Hinchcliff et al. and Current Therapy in Equine Medicine, Robinson and Sprayberry. Dr. Peters is an active member in a variety of sport horse associations and a member of the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Veterinary and Drugs and Medication Committees. He is a USEF evaluation veterinarian for the eventing, dressage and endurance discipline international teams and a multi-disciplined Federation Equestrian Internationale (FEI) veterinarian. He has been one of the USA team veterinarians for the para-equestrian and vaulting disciplines since 2014. He was a member of the Veterinary Commission during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games and the 2015 Pan American Games. Dr Peters is a member of the North American Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Association (NAVRMA), actively competes in hunter/jumper shows and fox hunts regularly.

 

BARBARA RICCIO

DVM, PhD, DACVSMR, Certified in Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP)

 

Dr. Riccio graduated in veterinary medicine from the University of Milan (Italy) in 1995. She subsequently completed one-year fellowship at the Equine Clinic of the Ecole Vétérinaire d'Alfort (France) and then from September 2000 to August 2001, she worked as a clinician at the CIRALE (Centre d’Imagerie et de Recherche sur les Affections Locomotrices Equines, Normandy, France). She worked as a private consultant in equine orthopedics, mainly on tendons and joint ultrasonography, and from 2001 to 2008 as a clinician at the equine section of the Veterinary School of Perugia (Italy). In 2006, she completed an international PhD in Equine Science (University of Perugia and University of Paris Val-de-Marne) under the supervision of Prof Jean-Marie Denoix (ISELP President). She has been invited speaker at several national and international meetings and the main teacher in many equine ultrasound courses. She obtained her ISELP Certification in 2014. Currently, she is working as a practitioner specialized in lameness examinations and diagnostic imaging in a private clinic (Clinica Veterinaria Cascina Gufa) in Milan (Italy) and in the Equine Hospital of the Veterinary School of Turin (Italy). Dr. Riccio is also a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.

 

 

 

H.J. (ERIK) BERGMAN

DVM, Diplomate ECAR, Associate Member ECVDI, Certified in Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP)

 

 

Dr. Bergman graduated in Ghent (Belgium) in 1996 and completed a residency in Equine Reproduction. He was co-founder of a large equine referral hospital in 2000, where he was responsible for the hospital’s diagnostic imaging capabilities. During this period Dr.Bergman became one of the first ISELP certified members and was acknowledged by the ECVDI to become an Associate Member, training residents in equine imaging. Recently Dr.Bergman started the Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre (SMDC) in The Netherlands. This hospital provides up to date diagnostic imaging equipment, including digital radiography, high resolution ultrasonography, UTC, nuclear scintigraphy and standing MRI. This centre combines all modern diagnostic- and treatment options with expertise, experience and good communication. Their vision is “Excellence will be tolerated, perfection is our goal”.

 

 

 

RICHARD D. MITCHELL

DVM, MRCVS, DACVSMR, Certified in Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP)
 
Rick Mitchell grew up on his family’s working horse farm in North Carolina. He participated in fox-hunting, and hunter/jumper competitions from childhood to an adult. He graduated from the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974. He served on active duty in the USAF Veterinary Corps for two years following graduation. He then began private practice in Connecticut with his mentor, Dr. Howard Raven in 1976. He currently is a part owner of Fairfield Equine Associates in Newtown, CT and practices equine medicine and surgery with an emphasis on lameness and imaging. He has been internationally certified in veterinary acupuncture and equine locomotor pathology as well as completing requirements for Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) in 2015. Rick has been involved in national and international equine competitions as both a rider and veterinarian. As a rider, he has won two national championships and one world championship in various disciplines. He has authored multiple nationally and internationally published articles and textbook chapters on equine health care. He has been an invited speaker on sport horse medicine in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, South America, Africa, India, and Mexico. Rick has served on multiple Boards of Directors including the United States Equestrian Federation, Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Rick is a current Trustee for the American Horse Council and chairman of the Health and Regulatory Committee. He was also a founding member of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology, serving on the society’s board of directors. 2016 marked his sixth visit to the Olympic Games as an attending veterinarian for the US Equestrian Team. 2015 marked his fifth Pan American games as well. He is now serving as Chair of the AAEP Foundation Advisory Council.
